Severe Storms Detroit June 2025

DETROIT, Michigan – A 4Warn Weather Alert has been issued for Metro Detroit as severe storms are expected to impact the area on Wednesday, June 18. The National Weather Service warns of two rounds of storms, with the first hitting from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the second wave likely occurring from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Forecasters anticipate scattered to numerous severe thunderstorms, particularly strong during the evening hours. The main threats include damaging wind gusts over 70 mph and heavy rainfall, with expected totals ranging from 1 to 1.5 inches, though isolated areas could see up to 3 inches. Tornadoes and large hail greater than one inch are also possible, making this a significant weather alert.

The enhanced risk for severe weather, rated a level 3 out of 5, applies to Western Wayne, Livingston, Washtenaw, Monroe, and Lenawee counties. Areas to the north and east of Detroit, including Cass City, are under a level 2 slight risk.

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-80s ahead of the storms, with humidity increasing as the day progresses. Meteorologist Ashlee Baracy, who frequently reports on weather in the area, emphasized the importance of staying informed and prepared for changing weather conditions.

As the storms approach, residents are advised to pay attention to any additional warnings and to have a safety plan in place should severe weather develop. Heavy rain, high winds, and the possibility of tornadoes may lead to hazardous conditions.

Following the stormy weather, a heat wave is predicted to begin over the weekend, ushering in temperatures that could exceed 90 degrees, along with increased humidity. Residents should be prepared for a transition from turbulent weather to a much hotter climate as summer officially begins.
