LONDON, England — The Princess of Wales has withdrawn from her planned attendance at Royal Ascot, a prestigious horse racing event, due to ongoing adjustments in her public engagements following her cancer treatment. Catherine, 43, was set to join her husband, Prince William, along with King Charles and Queen Camilla, on June 18, but royal sources say she is disappointed to miss the event.

Kensington Palace confirmed her absence, stating that Catherine is focusing on finding the right balance as she gradually returns to royal duties after announcing her cancer diagnosis last year. She expressed her disappointment about missing the carriage procession at the Berkshire racecourse, a highlight of the annual event.

This year’s Royal Ascot has attracted significant public interest, expected to draw over 250,000 spectators over five days. The carriage procession marks the ceremonial start of each day and celebrates its 200th anniversary this year, a tradition dating back to 1825 under King George IV.

Prince William was seen at the event alongside King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Catherine’s mother, Carole Middleton, who attended despite her daughter’s absence. William delivered the trophies to race winners during the royal event.

Catherine’s last public appearance included recent engagements such as the Trooping the Colour and a visit to the V&A East Storehouse. After completing her chemotherapy last September, the princess announced she was in remission in January and is committed to her recovery.

While this is the second consecutive year that William will attend Royal Ascot without Catherine, those in the royal circle have noted that she is being cautious and listening to her health as she resumes her public life. Catherine previously shared her journey, emphasizing the time needed to adjust after her health challenges.
