PHILADELPHIA, PA — As the NBA draft approaches, the Philadelphia 76ers reflect on their draft history while looking forward to the future. Following their Round 1 elimination, the Sixers held the No. 16 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. After much deliberation about the potential selections, they chose Jared McCain, a guard from Duke.

McCain began his rookie season impressively in 2024-25. Averaging 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds, he demonstrated a shooting percentage of 46% from the field and 38.3% from three-point range over 23 games. His performance included two games where he scored over 30 points, showcasing his versatility on the court.

However, McCain’s season was cut short due to a torn meniscus in his left knee, requiring surgery. The Sixers are optimistic about his recovery and expect him to return in good health for the 2025-26 season. His anticipated presence is seen as crucial to helping the franchise rebound.

Meanwhile, the 2025 NBA Draft is set to kick off with the first round on Wednesday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Detroit Pistons hold the No. 37 pick this year. Early expectations suggest the draft could unfold in unexpected ways after the initial picks, which are owned by the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs.

The mock draft predicts that the Mavericks will likely select Cooper Flagg, a forward from Duke, while the Spurs may go for Dylan Harper from Rutgers. The Sixers’ own interests will be closely watched as they have the ability to either strengthen their existing roster or make trades to enhance their outlook.
