DAYTON, Ohio — Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, has withdrawn from the Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati, leaving him without competitive matches since his semi-final loss at Wimbledon.

The Serbian tennis star picked up an injury during his semi-final defeat at the All England Club in July. As a result, he also withdrew from the ongoing tournament in Toronto. Djokovic last competed on hard courts at the Miami Open in March and has not participated in a Masters event since April.

Djokovic, a three-time Cincinnati champion, previously won the tournament in 2023, marking a memorable return. His anticipated playing time was cut short, indicating that he will enter the US Open without the usual preparation on hard courts.

Despite the setback, Djokovic is scheduled to begin his US Open campaign on August 19, where he plans to compete in the mixed doubles alongside fellow Serbian player.

The Cincinnati Open kicks off on Thursday, while the US Open is set to begin on August 24.
