Los Angeles, CA – Rob Lowe shared a nostalgic story about his friendship with Tom Cruise on his podcast, “Literally!” during an episode featuring KJ Apa and Lowe’s son, John Owen.

Lowe reminisced about their past friendship, mentioning how they were once very close. However, he pointed out a moment that revealed Cruise’s reluctance to discuss an upcoming role in the Martin Scorsese film, “The Color of Money,” the sequel to the classic “The Hustler“.

During a six-hour hangout over pizza in Westwood, Lowe casually asked Cruise about his Thanksgiving plans. Lowe recalled, “He’s like, ‘Aw, yeah, no I’m, yeah no I got a thing I’m, I got a thing I’m going to do.’” When Lowe pressed for details, Cruise responded cryptically, referencing a project with Scorsese.

“Holy s—!” Lowe exclaimed, realizing he was talking about a significant film opportunity. He learned that the cast would include legendary actor Paul Newman. “Wait, what?! Who’s in it? ‘Uh, Newman.'”

The conversation then shifted focus as Lowe teased KJ Apa about his numerous secret projects. Apa is set to star in a new romantic movie, “The Map That Leads You,” premiering on Prime Video later this month.

KJ Apa questioned the reluctance of actors like Cruise to share details about their work. “Why would he not be forthcoming?” asked Apa. “It’s because I don’t want to sometimes sound cocky.”

Lowe, pointing to his own excitement for opportunities, said, “I would’ve been like, ‘Dude! I’m doing a f—king movie with Martin Scorsese!’” His son, John, added that there’s an authenticity in sharing one’s excitement.

The playful exchange among friends highlighted the contrasting perspectives of sharing news in Hollywood. As both Lowe and Apa discussed how they would handle similar situations, they emphasized the balance between humility and enthusiasm in the competitive world of acting.

In revisiting their past, Lowe illustrated the nuances of friendship and the challenges actors face when discussing their careers, leaving listeners intrigued by the unspoken dynamics in Hollywood.
