Forrest Lucas Obituary Lucas Oil

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Forrest Lucas, the founder of Lucas Oil Products and a respected philanthropist, died peacefully on August 23, 2025, at the age of 83. His death was confirmed by Lucas Oil on its social media accounts.

Born on February 25, 1942, in Ramsey, Indiana, Lucas grew up on a small family farm where he learned the values of hard work and self-reliance. He often emphasized, “it doesn’t cost anything to be nice,” a lesson he shared with family and coworkers alike.

At the age of 19, Lucas purchased his first semi-truck, which marked the start of his trucking career. In 1989, he partnered with his wife, Charlotte, to establish Lucas Oil Products, which focused on manufacturing oil additives. The company quickly grew into a major player in the automotive industry.

Under Lucas’s leadership, the company transformed from a small operation to an internationally recognized brand, with products sold in over 90 countries. His innovative spirit resulted in the development of over 100 lubricants and additives designed to enhance engine performance.

Lucas’s impact extended beyond business; he was deeply involved in philanthropy, contributing to educational programs and agricultural conservation. His commitment earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash award.

Friends and colleagues are mourning his loss. Indianapolis Colts co-owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon shared, “We are saddened by the passing of Forrest Lucas. Our memories with him go back a long way, and we have cherished every moment of our business partnership.”

Forrest Lucas is survived by his wife Charlotte, their children, grandchildren, and sisters. A private celebration of life is planned for family and friends, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Ascension St. Vincent Foundation.
