Seattle Seahawks Part Ways with Veteran WR Tyler Lockett

Seattle, WA – The Seattle Seahawks made significant changes to their offense this offseason, parting ways with veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett. General manager John Schneider faced tough decisions, especially regarding Lockett’s future with the team.
Lockett, known for his impressive skills on the field and leadership qualities, was released to save $17 million in salary cap space ahead of free agency. Though he was once among the team’s top two receivers, his performance had declined in recent seasons.
Last week, he signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Tennessee Titans. However, his debut in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos raised concerns. Lockett only received one target, which he did not catch, highlighting concerns about his ability to produce on the field.
With his quickness diminished and past his prime, Lockett may have a challenging season ahead in 2025. Critics have noted his tendency to fall to the ground after making catches, which has limited his yardage and ability to convert crucial first downs.
Despite these challenges, Lockett can still contribute in other ways. His understanding of the game makes him a valuable resource for younger players like Cam Ward, where he could potentially assist with their development as a mentor.
Seattle Seahawks fans have witnessed Lockett’s decline firsthand; in 2023, he caught 79 passes, but that number dropped to 49 last year despite an increase in team passing attempts. While Lockett’s football career may be nearing its end, his positive impact as a person remains undeniable.
