Lorenzo Musetti Chengdu Open

Chengdu, China (September 20, 2025) — Top seed Lorenzo Musetti fought hard to secure his spot in the quarterfinals of the Chengdu Open on Saturday. The defending finalist defeated rising talent Otto Prizmic with a score of 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 in a match that lasted two hours and 16 minutes.

Musetti, who is looking to reclaim his title from last year, displayed resilience despite a challenging start. “Today I started with a little bit of tension, but it’s pretty normal, it’s my first match in more than two weeks,” Musetti said. He added, “The first match in China is always tough… I had to find my way, and in the third set I started to play better.”

With this win, Musetti improved his record at the tournament to 6-2 and is aiming for his first ATP Finals appearance this year. He currently ranks eighth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, just 25 points shy of the seventh position. Musetti expressed his desire for revenge after his loss in last year’s final, stating, “Hopefully this year will go even better, and this is a nice start.”

In other matches, Nikoloz Basilashvili, who originally came from the qualifying rounds, achieved a notable victory against Cameron Norrie with a score of 6-2, 7-6(4). Another qualifier, Yosuke Watanuki, also moved forward by upsetting third seed Tallon Griekspoor 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Musetti will next face Basilashvili, while Watanuki will compete against Chengdu debutant Arthur Fils, who triumphed over sixth seed Hugo Gaston in a thrilling match that ended 6-7(2), 7-6(5), 6-4.
