Weather Alert Issued for Heavy Rain in Charlotte and Surrounding Areas
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A cold front is bringing much-needed rain to the Charlotte area, prompting the WCNC Weather Impact Team to issue a Weather Impact Alert for Thursday afternoon through Friday morning.
Rain is expected to begin in the mountains Thursday morning, with scattered storms becoming more organized by late afternoon. The storms will gradually shift southward toward the piedmont and the Charlotte metro area.
The forecast calls for rain and possible storms on Thursday evening, continuing into Friday morning. Meteorologists warn of slick roadways, which could impact the morning commute. Temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s in some areas before the rain arrives.
Damaging wind gusts are a concern if any storms intensify. Rainfall rates could reach up to 1 inch per hour, which may cause localized flooding in some regions.
As the weather pattern changes, Charlotte and surrounding areas will see rounds of rain beginning Thursday and extending into Saturday, with scattered showers lingering into early next week. High temperatures for the week will generally hover around 80 degrees.
Tropical Storm Humberto is also forming offshore and may intensify as it heads west. Another tropical depression is likely to develop over the weekend from a tropical wave to the west of Humberto, complicating the weather forecast.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest forecasts and weather alerts via the WBTV app on mobile devices or on streaming platforms like Roku and Amazon Fire. Meteorologists will continue to monitor the developments and provide updates as the situation evolves.
