Pellegrini Set to Start for Roma Against Hellas Verona

ROMA, Italy (AP) — After a standout performance midweek, Lorenzo Pellegrini is expected to start for AS Roma this Sunday against Hellas Verona. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini spoke about the importance of consistency in the lineup.
“There aren’t any other situations; they’re all recovered. I’m never in favor of a large rotation,” Gasperini said. “Especially during this period, we need to play consistently and establish the game situations we’re improving in.”
Gasperini’s confidence comes after a derby victory and an impressive performance in the Europa League. Defensively, he indicated that changes were unlikely, emphasizing the effectiveness of center-backs like Mancini and Ndicka. “The team is always the most important thing,” he said, referencing his defenders.
While Gasperini pointed to the need for fresh legs with five substitutions allowed, he reiterated the importance of keeping a stable starting eleven. He ruled out starting youngsters Daniele Ghilardi or Jan Ziolkowski due to the strong performance of established players.
“Their time will come,” said Gasperini. “They have players up front doing something remarkable.” This sentiment reflects his focus on team performance over individual accolades.
Gasperini indicated that Kostas Tsimikas would likely move to the bench, making way for Angeliño. He remarked, “It’s not a problem whether he or Angeliño plays. The focus is on whether Roma does well or poorly.”
Midfielders Koné and Cristante are anticipated to return to the lineup, supporting the attacking midfield pairing of Pellegrini and Matías Soulé. Gasperini highlighted Pellegrini’s crucial role, stating, “He performed well in the derby, but he must rediscover his consistency and strength.”
Up front, striker Ferguson is expected to lead the attack, with Gasperini noting the ongoing competition for starting positions. “Dovbyk is growing athletically. His growth depends on his physical condition,” Gasperini added.
As Roma aims for an impressive home victory, fans are hopeful that the team’s recent momentum will carry through against Verona.
