Fans Speculate Taylor Swift’s New Song Disses Charli XCX

NEW YORK, NY — Fans are buzzing over a leaked track from Taylor Swift‘s forthcoming album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” which they believe may contain a veiled diss towards Charli XCX. The song, titled “Actually Romantic,” features lyrics that some have speculated target the British artist, known for her candid references to drug use in her music.
The alleged lyrics, “I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave,” have stirred significant conversation on social media as Swifties connect them to Charli, who has openly mentioned cocaine in her own songs, including her hit “365.” Charli, 33, sings in that track, “Should we do a little key? Should we have a little line?” reinforcing the ties between the lyrics and her.
Swift, 35, and Charli have a complex history. Charli opened for Swift during her Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018, even performing “Shake It Off” alongside the pop superstar. However, their relationship seems strained since Charli has grown closer to Swift’s ex-boyfriend Matty Healy, the frontman of The 1975, leading to further speculation among fans.
In previous interviews, Charli denied the existence of diss tracks in her own recent album “Brat,” specifically addressing the ongoing rumors about her relationship with Swift. “I just wanted to clarify that there aren’t — apart from maybe ‘Von Dutch,’” she commented back in May 2024.
On the other hand, Swift expressed admiration for Charli’s artistry during an interview in August 2024. “I’ve been blown away by Charli’s melodic sensibilities since I first heard ‘Stay Away’ in 2011,” she said, praising her creativity and work ethic.
The track “Actually Romantic” is slated for release at midnight ET on Friday, October 3, as part of Swift’s 12th studio album. While both artists have previously praised each other, the current gossip suggests fans are eager to uncover any underlying tensions in the lyrics.
