Pheonix Copley Hockey Goaltender

TAMPA BAY, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Lightning have claimed goaltender Pheonix Copley off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings, the team announced Thursday. This move aims to strengthen their goaltender position as veteran Andrei Vasilevskiy recovers from an injury.

Copley, 33, made a significant impact in the American Hockey League last season, playing 42 games with the Ontario Reign. He posted a record of 24 wins, 17 losses, and 1 overtime loss, along with a .904 save percentage and a 2.49 goals-against average.

Prior to this season, Copley had seen action in 77 career NHL games, representing the Kings, Washington Capitals, and St. Louis Blues. His NHL record stands at 44 wins, 16 losses, and 8 overtime losses, with a .898 save percentage and a 2.84 goals-against average.

“By claiming Copley, we’re adding a solid veteran option to our goaltending depth,” said Lightning Vice President and General Manager Julien BriseBois. “His experience can be a valuable asset, especially with Vasilevskiy out for a while.”

In addition to his NHL credentials, Copley boasts substantial AHL experience, having played in 279 games and achieving a .910 save percentage. He has also participated in 19 Calder Cup Playoffs games, further showcasing his ability in high-stakes situations.

Copley is expected to compete with backup goaltender Jonas Johansson for playing time as the Lightning prepare for the upcoming season. Tampa Bay hopes his experience will enhance their chances in the competitive league.
