Oregon State Seeks First Win Against App State in Cross-Country Clash

BOONE, North Carolina — The Oregon State Beavers will travel over 2,700 miles to face the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Saturday. The game, set for 12:30 p.m. PT at Kidd-Brewer Stadium, marks the Beavers’ first-ever matchup against App State. Both teams have different records this season, with Oregon State standing at 0-5 and App State at 2-2.
The Beavers, under the direction of head coach Trent Bray, are looking for their first win after a series of tough losses. Their recent performance included narrow defeats, most notably a 27-24 overtime loss against Houston. Bray expressed optimism, stating, “We’re ready to go out there and give it our all.” His team hopes to turn the season around during this crucial game.
App State head coach Dowell Loggains is wary of the Beavers despite their winless record. “You just watch how the Houston game went. They had it up and then lost late due to some special teams’ mishaps,” Loggains noted. He respects Oregon State’s talent and acknowledges the psychological edge that comes with their desperation for a win.
A focal point for App State will be Oregon State’s starting quarterback, Maalik Murphy. Loggains, who once attempted to recruit Murphy during his time at South Carolina, said, “A lot of respect for him. He’s got great personality and arm strength.” Loggains emphasized that Murphy’s skills will pose a challenge for his defense.
Travel can be a concern for the Beavers, as they embark on a long journey from Corvallis, Oregon, to Boone, North Carolina. “It’s a four-hour flight, but it’s a two-hour bus trip to Charlotte,” Loggains explained. This, combined with the time zone differences, adds to the complexity of the game.
Fans can catch the contest on ESPN+, with radio broadcasts available on local stations. The Beavers hope to use this trip as an opportunity to start their campaign anew against a Mountaineers team that is also looking to solidify its standing this season.
Kickoff between the Beavers and the Mountaineers is set for 12:30 p.m. PT on Saturday.
