Diamondbacks’ Tyler Locklear to Undergo Elbow and Shoulder Surgery

Phoenix, Arizona — Tyler Locklear, the first baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks, is set to undergo surgery on both his elbow and shoulder this month, a source confirmed.
The procedures come as a result of a collision during a game on September 7 when Locklear attempted to catch a throw from Diamondbacks third baseman Jordan Lawlar. In the seventh inning, he reached into the path of runner Connor Wong and sustained significant injuries.
Locklear, a right-handed thrower, has been diagnosed with a torn ligament in his left elbow and will need surgery to repair his left shoulder’s labrum. Dr. Keith Meister is scheduled to perform both operations on October 16.
Though he is expected to return at some point next season, the Diamondbacks do not have a precise timetable for his recovery. This uncertainty stems from the rarity of players undergoing elbow and shoulder surgeries at the same time.
Locklear joined the Diamondbacks from the Seattle Mariners as part of the trade involving Eugenio Suarez in July. During his 31-game stint with the team, he struggled offensively, recording a batting average of just .175 with 43 strikeouts in 116 plate appearances.
The team had anticipated that Locklear would play a key role at first base alongside Pavin Smith in 2026, but these surgeries may complicate that plan.
