Cooler Weather Approaches New England as Rain Forecasts Increase

BOSTON, Massachusetts — A strong cold front is set to sweep into New England tonight, bringing increasing clouds and scattered to widespread rain. Temperatures in Boston, which expect to enjoy sunshine the longest, will reach highs of 80 degrees while areas inland hit the upper 70s.
As the day progresses, scattered showers and possibly some thunderstorms are anticipated to move into Vermont and Western Massachusetts by late afternoon. Experts advise that Greater Boston might remain dry until around 9 p.m., although areas west could experience rain as early as 7 p.m. Heavier rainfall is expected to arrive before dawn on Wednesday, lasting into the early afternoon.
Low temperatures will settle into the 50s and low 60s. Tuesday’s weather will be largely influenced by high pressure, resulting in a mostly sunny day. However, as the high moves east and the cold front approaches from the west, clouds will begin to build.
This cold front is crucial as it brings much-needed precipitation that authorities hope will help combat ongoing drought conditions. Rainfall totals are projected to be between half an inch to an inch across Southern New England.
Wind speeds are also expected to pick up, ranging from 10 to 15 miles per hour, with potential gusts reaching up to 25 miles per hour. This might lead to some debris like leaves flying around but is not expected to cause major disruptions.
Before the rain sets in, the combination of dry weather and breezy conditions increases the risk of wildfires across New England states. Dew points will rise overnight, leading into Wednesday where the humidity will make the air feel heavier, although cooler air is set to follow.
As for the temperatures on Wednesday, they will reflect a return to the fall season, reaching the mid- to upper 60s, heavily influenced by overcast skies and morning rain. Weather updates will continue to track the developments from this incoming system.
