2025 MLB Playoff Divisional Round Begins With Key Matches

NEW YORK, NY — The 2025 Major League Baseball playoffs have advanced to the divisional round, featuring four best-of-five matchups, which begin today at the arena of the higher seeds.
The Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners dominated their wild-card round series, winning in decisive fashion. The Yankees came back from a 6-1 deficit to secure their Game 3 win against the Mariners on Wednesday, with three runs scored and four RBIs from a notable player, keeping them one win away from the American League Championship Series (ALCS) for the first time since 2001.
This year marks the longest drought for the Yankees in the ALCS, as they seek to move forward in the playoffs. The Tigers, aiming to force a Game 5, will send Tarik Skubal to the mound against the Mariners in their critical fourth game, scheduled for 3:08 p.m. ET.
In the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers secured a sweep in Philadelphia, while the Cubs look to bounce back after losing both their games in Milwaukee. They head back to Wrigley Field as slight favorites, hoping to extend their season with a strong performance on Wednesday.
“All games today are elimination matches and will determine who moves forward in the playoffs,” noted a sports analyst. “The stakes are high, and teams need to perform at their best.”
Today’s schedule includes four elimination games, with the Yankees vs. Blue Jays at 7:08 p.m., Brewers vs. Cubs at 5:08 p.m., and Dodgers vs. Phillies at 9:08 p.m. The last game of the series may happen on Friday if necessary.
The Blue Jays lead their series 2-1 while the Mariners also hold a 2-1 advantage against the Tigers. Both the Dodgers and Brewers are leading their series 2-0 against the Phillies and Cubs, respectively, and will look to close them out today.
With the playoffs heated, fans are eager to see which teams will make it to the next round.
