Gushers Unveils ‘FruitHead’ Horror Short for Spooky Season
LOS ANGELES, CA — Gushers has surprised fans this spooky season with the release of a horror short film titled “FruitHead.” This new film draws inspiration from the company’s iconic, creepy ads from the 1990s, where children’s heads were transformed into fruit after they consumed the sticky snack.
The film centers on Richard, a ruthless commercial director. Obsessing over creating a realistic Gushers commercial, he resorts to dark magic, leading to a nightmarish scene where a child actor’s head is turned into a strawberry. After an extended moment of body horror, a crew member reveals to Richard that the transformation was achieved using CGI, leaving the actor abandoned and traumatized.
Years later, the story takes a dark turn as Richard is held hostage by Jacob, the former child actor whose life was ruined by his “deformed strawberry head.” Jacob seeks revenge, echoing the eerie catchphrase from the ads: “A taste that will drive you fruity.”
Directed by Mike Diva, “FruitHead” was produced in partnership with Imagine Entertainment and premiered on the Gushers YouTube channel on Thursday.
This release follows a recent campaign by Angry Orchard, which introduced its own short film, “Sweet Revenge,” featuring the slasher icon Jason Voorhees.
Actor Chester Collins, who plays Jacob, is notable for his role alongside popular stars. Meanwhile, Gushers continues to embrace nostalgia and creativity in their marketing strategies.
