Mega Millions Jackpot Reaches $625 Million After Latest Drawing
NEW YORK (AP) — The Mega Millions jackpot climbed to an estimated $625 million after the latest drawing on Friday night. Winning numbers drawn were 9, 21, 27, 48, 56, and the Megaball was 10.
During the previous drawing on October 14, lottery officials announced that over 401,000 tickets won prizes, collectively totaling more than $12.1 million. Among those, two tickets, one sold in Arizona and one in Texas, matched all five white balls, earning each player a second-tier prize of $2 million thanks to the 2X multiplier.
A total of 15 tickets matched four white balls and the Mega Ball, qualifying them for the third-tier prize. Eight of these tickets won $20,000 at the 2X multiplier, while four more won $30,000 at 3X, two tickets earned $40,000 at 4X, and one ticket claimed $50,000 at 5X multiplier.
The current jackpot has been rolling since it was last won for $348 million in Virginia on June 27. Earlier this year, jackpots of $112 million were awarded in Ohio and Arizona, and $349 million in Illinois.
With the recent changes in rules, players face odds of 1 in 292 million for the jackpot, an improvement from the previous odds of 1 in 302 million due to the removal of one gold Mega Ball. The price of a ticket also increased from $2 to $5 in April, leading to higher non-jackpot prizes now starting at $10 and a multiplier feature.
Mega Millions is available in 45 states along with Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time. The New York Lottery continues to be the largest in North America, contributing $3.7 billion to education in New York State for the fiscal year 2022-2023.
