Wyandotte Woman Wins $100,000 Powerball With AI-Generated Numbers

WYANDOTTE, Mich. — A 45-year-old woman from Wyandotte used artificial intelligence to choose her winning Powerball numbers, resulting in a $100,000 prize from the Michigan Lottery. Tammy Carvey matched four white balls and the Powerball number during the drawing on Sept. 6
Carvey purchased her ticket online, selecting the numbers 11-23-44-61-62 and Powerball 17. She normally plays Powerball only when the jackpot exceeds $1 billion, which prompted her to buy a ticket. “I asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers and those are the numbers I played on my ticket,” said Carvey.
After the drawing, she checked the winning numbers and realized that she had matched four white balls and the Powerball. Initially, she believed she had won a $50,000 prize, the value before applying the Power Play option. “When I checked the winning numbers, I saw I matched four white balls and the Powerball and knew I had to have won something,” Carvey explained. “Google told me it was a $50,000 prize, so that’s what I thought I’d won.”
It was only when Carvey logged into her Michigan Lottery account that she discovered she had actually added Power Play to her ticket, which doubled her winnings to $100,000. “My husband and I were in total disbelief,” she said.
Carvey recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. With her winnings, she plans to pay off her home and save the remainder. Powerball tickets cost $2 and are available at retailers across Michigan and online.
Power Play is an option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times for an additional $1.
The Powerball drawing occurs at 10:59 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays and can be watched live online. While Carvey’s story showed a unique twist of using AI for lottery numbers, the Michigan Lottery reminds players that the results of all Lottery drawings are random and cannot be predicted.
