Fsru Lng Croatia Terminal Operations

Omišalj, Croatia – The FSRU vessel LNG Croatia has returned to the LNG terminal in Omišalj after 55 days of maintenance and upgrades in Turkey. The vessel completed the installation of a new regasification module and underwent a five-year class renewal, which is set to enhance its operations significantly.

The LNG Croatia is expected to commence commercial operations on October 26, 2025, following final preparations that include testing and inspection of both the vessel and the terminal’s onshore facilities. This upgrade will double the regasification capacity from approximately 3.1 billion cubic meters to 6.1 billion cubic meters annually, providing increased gas supply reliability to Croatia and neighboring countries.

Ivan Fugaš, Managing Director of LNG Croatia, shared that the expansion is crucial amidst ongoing energy challenges in Europe, particularly due to the geopolitical climate. The upgrade at the Kuzey Star shipyard near Istanbul was a substantial investment, totaling around 16.6 million euros, with the main contract allocated to Kuzey Star for 14.61 million euros.

Additional components for the new gasification module, weighing over 470 tonnes, were manufactured by the Norwegian company WGS in China. This module will significantly increase the flow of natural gas, addressing the growing needs of the region.

Since commencing operations in January 2021, the LNG Croatia terminal has seen full leasing of its capacities for the next 12 years, showcasing the high demand for liquefied natural gas in Central and Southeastern Europe. The Croatian government emphasizes that boosting LNG capacity aligns with the EU’s broader goals to diversify energy sources across the continent.
