Power Outage Affects Thousands in New Orleans Following Storms
NEW ORLEANS, La. — A power outage left thousands without electricity in New Orleans’ Mid-City and Bayou St. John areas on Sunday morning following severe weather. At its peak, over 9,000 customers reported outages, but as of 3 p.m., estimates showed more than 1,000 customers still remained in the dark, according to Entergy’s outage map.
After heavy rains swept through the region, several tornado warnings were issued, which have since expired. A Flash Flood Warning was also announced for the New Orleans Metro area, but that warning has since lifted as well.
Locally, businesses felt the brunt of the outage. James Clancy, owner of Clancy’s restaurant on Bienville, stated that the loss of power forced them to shut down early while planning to host patrons for the Saints game. “We were looking forward to a busy day, but safety comes first,” Clancy said. “We’ve lost power three times in the past three weeks, and it’s becoming a real issue.”
Entergy is still investigating the cause of the outage. In a statement, the utility company acknowledged around 4,000 customers still faced interruptions. “Our crews are working diligently and safely to restore service, and we’re currently determining what caused the outage,” the company stated.
Power has been restored to many areas including Clancy's, but hundreds remain affected. Entergy has not yet provided a specific timeline for full restoration.
