Hurricane Harbor Bowie Maryland Closing

Bowie, Maryland — Six Flags America, an amusement park located in Bowie, will close on Sunday, November 2, marking its final weekend open to the public. The park announced, “This weekend, Nov. 1-2, is your last chance to visit Six Flags America forever.”

The approximately 500-acre park features more than 100 rides, slides, shows, and eight roller coasters. Its closure comes as part of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation’s ongoing portfolio optimization program, a strategy the company revealed earlier this year.

“Thank you for 50 years of family fun,” the park stated in its message, reflecting on its long history of providing entertainment.

Six Flags America employs about 70 full-time associates, who will be affected by the shutdown. As part of the closure process, Six Flags has enlisted commercial real estate firm CBRE to market the property for sale.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation operates 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks, and nine resort properties across 17 states in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Six Flags America is located at 13710 Central Ave., approximately 150 miles from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

This planned closure signifies another chapter in the evolving landscape of theme parks in the region, leaving many loyal visitors with a sense of nostalgia.
