SEPTA Cancels Trains for Safety Inspections in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA, PA — SEPTA has canceled multiple trains on its Regional Rail routes for the Monday morning commute due to ongoing safety inspections of its Silverliner IV fleet.
The canceled trains include those on the Airport, Fox Chase, and Chestnut Hill West lines, specifically trains 9411, 412, 425, 802, 809, and 814. Later in the day, additional cancellations will affect trains 426, 9435, 436, 449, 9450, 9459, 460, 473, 821, 826, 833, 838, 845, 850, 857, and 862.
SEPTA officials stated that these measures are necessary to ensure safer operations and improve reliability for riders. They anticipate that passengers will face crowded conditions, delays, and potentially missed stops, especially near Center City.
The safety inspections were ordered by the Federal Railroad Administration after multiple fires involving the Silverliner IV model were reported since February. As of October 31, SEPTA had inspected 114 of its 225 rail cars, with an expectation to finish the inspections by November 14.
Andrew Busch, a SEPTA spokesperson, noted that service disruptions are likely to continue through the end of the year, but improvements are anticipated as more rail cars are returned to service.
For the latest updates, riders are encouraged to check SEPTA’s official communication channels.
