Recalled Products Raise Safety Concerns for Consumers
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two widely sold products have been recalled due to urgent safety warnings from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall includes the Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stove and Outdoor Master children’s and youth helmets, amid nationwide concerns.
The CPSC warns that the camping stoves have caused injuries from explosions and fires, which may result in serious burns. On the other hand, the helmets do not comply with mandatory safety standards, exposing children to the risk of head injuries or death during bicycle crashes.
Walmart has recalled approximately 201,000 of the butane camping stoves, identified with model number BG2247A1, due to serious burn and fire hazards. The stoves, manufactured by China Window Industry Co., Ltd. of Taipei, Taiwan, were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online from March 2023 to October 2025, with prices ranging from $8 to $45.
The decision to recall the stoves came after Walmart received 26 reports of stoves exploding or catching fire, including 16 incidents of second-degree burns among consumers.
Additionally, the CPSC announced the recall of around 24,300 helmets imported by Maysun Products, Inc., of Chino, California. These helmets were sold online at Amazon.com and Walmart.com between June 2024 and February 2025 for $20 to $32. The helmets fail to meet safety requirements for bicycle use, particularly regarding positional stability and head protection coverage. While there have been no reported injuries from these helmets, the CPSC emphasizes the potential risks.
The CPSC states, “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled stoves and return the product to any Walmart retail store for a full refund.” For the helmets, consumers are advised to contact Outdoor Master for instructions on how to register for a refund.
Walmart has not responded to requests for further comment but assures customers that the company is committed to providing safe and compliant products. Their recall page recommends that customers follow all CPSC directives for safety.
For more information, customers can contact Walmart Customer Service at 800-925-6278, available from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT. Helmet owners should reach out to Outdoor Master via email at [email protected] for refund instructions.
