Mid South Cold Weather Forecast December 2025

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Another cold and cloudy day is expected across the Mid-South on Thursday, with morning temperatures in the 30s only rising to the upper 30s to near 40 degrees by the afternoon.

A disturbance approaching the area late in the day could bring rain to southern parts and a wintry mix near and north of Interstate 40. Despite the precipitation, little to no accumulation is anticipated, leading to limited impacts except for some nuisance road issues early Friday morning.

On Friday, cloudy conditions will persist with temperatures remaining below average. Morning lows will dip into the upper 20s to lower 30s, and travelers are advised to allow extra time for their commutes, especially on bridges and overpasses where icy patches may form.

The temperatures may attempt to reach the lower 40s in the afternoon, with skies remaining mostly cloudy. Overnight, temperatures are expected to settle into the 30s.

Looking ahead to Saturday, the weather will trend drier and somewhat brighter, coinciding with the St. Jude Marathon. Morning participants can expect temperatures in the middle 30s, rising to the 40s or even near 50 degrees by the afternoon.

However, another weather disturbance is forecasted to bring additional clouds and a chance of showers late Saturday into early Sunday. A mild warming trend should move in next week, inching closer to average temperatures.

In an effort to engage with children and families, Action News 5 has revived its “Color the Weather” program in collaboration with McDonald’s. Each morning at 6 AM, meteorologist Patrick Ellis showcases a “Color the Weather” photo live on air, inviting children to color it and submit their art to the station. Families can pick up pictures to color at participating Memphis area McDonald’s or download them online to share.

For ongoing weather updates, viewers can follow Patrick Ellis on Facebook, X, Instagram, and BlueSky at @PatrickEllisWx.
