Abandoned Puppies Davison Township Michigan

DAVISON, Mich. (WJRT) – Three abandoned puppies were rescued in Davison Township over the weekend, with one suffering a gunshot wound. The dogs, now named Oscar, Bruce, and KC, were discovered by local resident John Forys while walking his own dogs near the Davison Cemetery on Saturday evening.

Forys heard barking and followed the sound to find the puppies hiding behind a tree. “I thought, ‘I have to get these dogs out of here;’ I didn’t know what was going to happen,” he said. The puppies were in poor condition, with Bruce sustaining a gunshot wound to his front leg.

Forys and his wife, Kay, contacted Davison Township Police and Child’s Veterinary Clinic for assistance. Officer Spencer Zecchini, who responded to the scene, said, “I have three dogs of my own, so it hits me on a personal level. Seeing the dogs out there in the cold, it breaks your heart.”

Dr. Delmar Childs of Child’s Veterinary Clinic reported that Bruce required emergency surgery for his injury. “He’s doing great,” Dr. Childs said, adding that the bullet remains in Bruce’s leg until he is strong enough for further surgery, if needed. The other two puppies had minor injuries but were cold and hungry, having resorted to eating plastic bags, cigarette butts, and rocks.

The seven-month-old dogs are now recovering after receiving vaccinations, food, and water. “Whoever adopts them will need a patient heart, but they are happy and very loving dogs,” Dr. Childs said. The community has rallied to support the puppies, with donations for toys and blankets pouring in.

Purina has donated a 25-pound bag of dog food for each puppy, and Zoetis will provide six months of medication. Meanwhile, police are investigating the circumstances of the abandonment. Officer Zecchini said, “We still don’t know who abandoned the dogs or who owns them currently.” The Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case.
