The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has achieved significant recognition with 18 finalist nominations across 13 categories in the 2024 Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism. The corporation’s investigative journalism efforts have garnered multiple nominations, highlighting the impact and quality of its journalistic pursuits.
Among the nominated programs is “Pain Factory,” a Four Corners investigation that delves into the multi-billion dollar chronic pain industry. Also from Four Corners, “Ruthless Pursuit” is nominated for shedding light on a former Chinese spy who exposed China’s secret oppression activities worldwide.
The ABC’s 7.30 program received nominations for its investigative reports “Financial Housing Prison,” addressing issues in the land lease retirement living sector, and “Netstrata,” which uncovers malpractice within the strata industry. Background Briefing’s investigative pieces, “Stop and Search” and “The Price of Freebirth,” and Triple J Hack’s “Behind Closed Doors” were also recognized in various categories.

In the realm of Commentary, Analysis, Opinion, and Critique, presenter and writer Annabel Crabb stands as a finalist for her insightful columns. The ABC’s technical prowess is also recognized with two nominations for Television/Video Camerawork within the Foreign Correspondent program and a nomination in the Feature/Photographic Essay category.
