Sarasota County Barrier Islands

Access to the barrier islands of Sarasota County, Florida, will be restricted beginning on Tuesday at 7 p.m., as authorities prepare for an impending storm. The islands included in the restriction are Casey Key, Manasota Key, Siesta Key, and Longboat Key.

According to a report by ABC7, residents will be permitted to leave the barrier islands after the restriction begins; however, re-entry will be prohibited until a post-storm search and rescue mission is completed. Authorities have advised residents to evacuate with sufficient supplies to last several days.

“We urge community members to ensure they have all necessary items for evacuation,” stated local officials.

To enforce the restriction, uniformed personnel will be stationed at key intersections including the John Ringling Causeway, Siesta Drive Bridge, Stickney Point Road Bridge, Blackburn Point Swing Bridge, Albee Road Bridge, and Manasota Beach Road Bridge.

In addition, the water supply to the barrier islands has been shut off as part of the precautionary measures.

The residents are advised to follow safety guidelines and stay informed about further developments through official channels.
