Acid Attack at Westminster Academy Leads to Hospitalization of Three Individuals
In a harrowing incident in west London, two teenage students and a teacher were hospitalized following an alleged acid attack at Westminster Academy on Alfred Road, Paddington. The occurrence took place at approximately 4:40 pm on September 30, according to authorities.
The Metropolitan Police disclosed that patrol officers were alerted by staff members of the academy after a substance, suspected to be acidic, was hurled at the victims. Among the injured is a 14-year-old girl who remains hospitalized with potentially life-changing injuries.
A 16-year-old male student also received medical attention at the hospital, though his injuries were assessed as not posing a threat to his life or being life-altering. Additionally, a 27-year-old female staff member was treated and subsequently discharged.
Two police officers were also precautionarily admitted to the hospital after feeling unwell in the aftermath of the incident. The police have launched an urgent investigation to capture those responsible, instituting several crime scenes in the process.
Following the attack, Westminster Academy announced on its website that the school would remain closed on Tuesday, opting for online learning instead. “Students will resume lessons through online learning,” a statement on the website read, with further communication to be conducted through Google Classroom.
The Metropolitan Police urged the public for assistance, encouraging anyone with information to contact them immediately at reference number 4987/30 Sept. Additionally, individuals wishing to remain anonymous can report via the independent charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
In response to the incident, Cllr Adam Hug, Leader of Westminster City Council, expressed his concern, describing the attack as “truly shocking.” He affirmed the council’s support, pledging to provide educational psychologists and additional resources to aid the affected students in overcoming the traumatic experience. He also emphasized collaboration with the police to ensure community reassurance and support.
The investigation remains active as forensic testing of the substance continues, with police focusing on identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
