WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Local authorities are responding to a reported active shooter at Sheppard Air Force Base (SAFB) on Friday morning, leading to a lockdown of the base and surrounding facilities.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., SAFB Security Forces received reports of an active shooter situation on the southeast side of the base, prompting immediate action. According to a media release from SAFB, security personnel secured the nearby Sheppard Elementary School and initiated perimeter sweeps to assess the situation.

Reports of gunshots were first received around 10 a.m. Four shots have been reported by officials, although the presence of an active shooter has yet to be confirmed. As of 10:20 a.m., no injuries had been reported.

The Wichita Falls Police and Wichita County sheriff’s deputies quickly responded to the emergency, dispatching units to the vicinity of the Wichita Falls Regional Airport, which is adjacent to the base. A law enforcement command post was established on-site to coordinate the response efforts.

Officials indicated that a suspect, described as a white male wearing a blue shirt and a ball cap, was possibly seen walking near the airport and a nearby school. Drones have been deployed to assist with the search as the lockdown of Sheppard AFB remains in effect.
