Actress Hina Khan recently shared a heartbreaking piece of news on her social media. She revealed that she is currently battling breast cancer, which has reached the third stage. While her diagnosis came a few days ago, treatment has already commenced.

Our bodies consist of numerous cells, and when these cells start to grow abnormally in a certain part of the body, the chances of cancer increase. Breast cancer involves cells forming a tumor that can be felt as a lump within the breast.

The seriousness of cancer is determined by its stage. Stage 1, or mild, confines cancer to the breast only. Stage 2, or moderate, sees cancer extending from the breast to the nearby lymph nodes under the arm.

Stages 3 and 4 depict rapid cancer progression. Stage 4 indicates the spread of cancer to distant sites like the liver, lungs, or bones.

Many people commonly attribute breast cancer to genetics, assuming a familial connection. Surprisingly, only about 10-15% of breast cancer cases are genetic. The exact causes are still unknown. It is essential to check for the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations if there’s a family history of breast cancer.
