Actress Kristin Scott Thomas Secretly Marries Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait
Renowned actress Kristin Scott Thomas, aged 64, has quietly wed John Micklethwait, the editor-in-chief of Bloomberg. Reports indicate the couple held a private ceremony in September, attended only by their closest family members. The couple, who have been together for five years, have not publicly commented on their relationship until now.
Scott Thomas, known for her roles in films such as “The English Patient” and “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” has a storied career spanning over four decades, with a celebrated presence in both British and French cinema. She was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in 2015 for her services to drama.
Micklethwait, who has led Bloomberg’s 2,700-strong newsroom since 2015 after serving as editor-in-chief of The Economist for nine years, is equally private about his personal life. Both he and Scott Thomas have preferred to keep their romance out of the public eye. In an interview with the Financial Times earlier this year, Scott Thomas declined to discuss their relationship, stating, “I’m not going to talk about him. I’m talking about me.”
A friend of the couple described them as a “perfect match,” highlighting their mutual intelligence, wit, and devotion to each other. “Everyone is delighted that they have got married after a wonderful five-year romance,” the friend commented.
Kristin Scott Thomas was previously married to François Olivennes, with whom she shares three children. Their marriage ended in 2005. In discussions about her personal life, Scott Thomas has often spoken candidly about the difficulties of sustaining personal relationships alongside a demanding career. She humorously told the Sunday Telegraph that her hectic lifestyle might deter potential partners, saying, “It’s incredibly difficult keeping relationships alive when you have a lifestyle like mine. I’m never more than a few weeks in one place.”
The actress’s recent projects include her role on the Apple TV+ series “Slow Horses,” where she plays a commanding MI5 agent, a character as reserved about her personal life as Scott Thomas is about her own.
