Adam Thielen Returns to Vikings in Exciting Trade

Minnesota, MN – In August, the Minnesota Vikings traded for veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen, welcoming him back to his hometown team. This trade also thrilled fellow receiver Justin Jefferson, who expressed his excitement about reuniting with his former teammate.
The Vikings and the Carolina Panthers spent over a week negotiating the trade, with discussions stalling over draft pick compensation. Finally, the Vikings confirmed a deal, sending a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Panthers. In return, the Vikings received Thielen, a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick, and a 2027 fifth-round pick.
Jefferson shared his enthusiasm about Thielen’s return, stating, “It’s been great, honestly, just having that happy vibe back in the building. He’s always ready to work and comes prepared every single day, and that’s what I love about him most. He was that big brother to me, keeping me under his wing, and that’s the same type of vibe I try to have for him as well.”
Thielen was eager to facilitate his move back to the Vikings, agreeing to a $2 million pay cut to help finalize the trade. The Panthers had increased his salary by $1.5 million during the offseason, bringing his 2025 compensation to $7 million. However, the Panthers chose not to cover any part of Thielen’s salary during trade discussions, leading to his decision to take the pay cut.
“Obviously, you guys know without me saying it, how much this place means to me,” Thielen said. “The state, the city, this organization, [ownership], coaches, players. I couldn’t be more excited, and there’s nothing I could say to tell you how excited I am to be back home in my family.”
