Ahmedabad, India — An Air India flight crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport on June 12, 2025, while en route to London. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as Flight AI-171, had 242 people on board, including 2 pilots and 10 crew members.

The aircraft took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and went down in the densely populated Meghani area, prompting immediate panic among local residents. Thick clouds of black smoke were seen rising from the crash site, alarming people as far away as Vastrapur.

Initial reports indicate that the flight encountered an emergency shortly after takeoff. Local residents rushed to the scene to assist in rescue efforts before emergency services arrived. Seven fire engines and multiple rescue teams were quickly deployed to control the blaze and search for survivors.

Air India stated it is ascertaining the details surrounding the incident and will provide updates via their website and social media channels. Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of casualties or injuries related to the crash.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to state officials and assured that the Central government will provide assistance in response to the crash. Some nearby buildings were reported damaged due to the impact.

As rescue operations continue, more teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are being sent to the site. The full extent of the situation remains unclear.
