Alice Oseman Discusses Future of ‘Heartstopper’ TV Series
Alice Oseman, the creator of the beloved young adult series ‘Heartstopper‘, has expressed enthusiasm for continuing the story of Charlie and Nick on screen. In a conversation with Tudum, Oseman, the writer of the original graphic novels and executive producer of the Netflix series, shared their excitement about further adaptations, stating “there is more story in the books that we have yet to cover, and we would love to tell the end of the story in TV form.”
The show’s past seasons have drawn from Volume 4 and Volume 5 of the graphic novels, with a sixth and final book anticipated. Oseman confirmed that discussions with Netflix and See-Saw Films, the production company behind ‘Heartstopper’, are ongoing regarding the future of the show. “As much as I — and everyone else — want the final installment to come to the screen as soon as possible,” Oseman remarked, “there are a lot of moving parts to account for that make it hard to solidify anything.”
Currently, Oseman’s primary focus remains on finishing Volume 6, which will influence forthcoming TV content. “I’m coming towards the end of the story now, which is a very bittersweet feeling,” Oseman shared, emphasizing their readiness to conclude the series. “I love Heartstopper so much, so I am very sad that it’s going to end, but I’m ready to tell the end of that story.”
The third season of ‘Heartstopper’ has been lauded for its portrayal of the characters’ growth into young adulthood, addressing various personal challenges and relationships. Fans have witnessed a year and a half in the characters’ lives, allowing for deepened relationships and personal discoveries, as noted by Oseman, “Fans have seen these characters go through so much. Their relationships have deepened, and so many of the characters have blossomed and discovered new things about themselves.”
While the wait may be long, Oseman invites fans to revel in the latest season, stating, “There’s so much to discover in Season 3 — so many different elements of the story to unpack and discuss and talk about with all your friends.”
