Allegations Implicate Falz in Bobrisky’s Legal Exoneration Controversy
A recent viral audio recording has surfaced, implicating Nigerian rapper Falz, whose real name is Folarin Falana, and his father, renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana, in helping social media personality Bobrisky avert legal consequences. The allegations suggest that Falz and his father played a role in Bobrisky’s evasion of a sentence related to currency misuse charges.
The audio, released by popular social media figure VeryDarkMan on September 24, 2024, claims that Bobrisky, whose real name is Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju, allegedly paid some unidentified officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against him. Bobrisky further alleged he was taken to a private residence instead of serving his sentence in prison for his previous conviction related to the abuse of the naira currency.
“In the audio, Bobrisky claims a SAN and his son were instrumental in securing his freedom, with VeryDarkMan suggesting that Falz and Femi Falana might have been involved in the process,” the unnamed source said. Following these revelations, the EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has initiated an investigation to uncover the truth of the matter.
Falz’s alleged involvement quickly became a hot topic on social media platform X, with Nigerian netizens expressing varying opinions. “Falz linked his father to defend Bobrisky… how is that a crime? Or does Bobrisky not deserve legal defence? Y’all say it like he bribed or stole public funds,” one user remarked. Another user expressed disbelief, stating, “Falz and his dad only provided legal services to Bobrisky from that voice note I listened to, unless there’s another one out there. I still don’t see anything they did wrong.”
The controversy stems from an earlier incident in April 2024 when Bobrisky was detained by the EFCC for allegedly mutilating the naira. This charge followed his actions of spraying and displaying bundles of new naira notes at a film premiere on March 24, 2024. Bobrisky was sentenced after pleading guilty, yet questions remain over whether he served the full term as claimed.
The investigation into these allegations is ongoing, with many awaiting further clarification from involved parties and authorities at large.
