Amazon Games and NCSOFT Launch ‘Throne and Liberty’ on Multiple Platforms
Amazon Games and NCSOFT have collaboratively launched a new massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), ‘Throne and Liberty‘, on October 1, 2024. Set in the expansive world of Solisium, this free-to-play game is available on platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam. The game encourages players to embark on adventurous quests, engage in large-scale PvP battles, and leverage environmental effects to gain advantages in gameplay.
The game introduces an innovative traversal system where characters can transform into creatures, allowing them to fly, run, and swim, enhancing exploration dynamics. ‘Throne and Liberty’ also offers cross-platform play, enabling gamers from different systems to connect and play together.
Players can expect a rich narrative experience paired with guild-focused strategies in a persistently changing landscape. The game includes PvE content like cooperative dungeons, a variety of skills, and dynamic events that promise rewarding challenges. Friedrich Hartmann, Vice President of Amazon Games, remarked, “A major part of our publishing strategy is bringing beautifully crafted and well-loved games from developers around the world and bringing them to new audiences.”
The localization process of ‘Throne and Liberty’ was a joint effort by Amazon Games and NCSOFT, making the game available in a variety of languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian-Portuguese, and Japanese, with audio options in English, Korean, and Japanese. Moonyoung Choi, Head of Division for Throne and Liberty at NCSOFT, expressed confidence in the partnership with Amazon Games, highlighting the collaborative efforts over the past two and a half years leading to the game’s launch.
Although the launch was accompanied by some technical difficulties, specifically server issues that resulted in disconnections during gameplay, the game’s early performance has been impressive. As of the publishing of this article, ‘Throne and Liberty’ has reached the fourth position in popularity on Steam, following games like ‘Dota 2‘ and ‘Counter-Strike 2‘. Despite receiving mixed reviews due to early server issues and microtransactions, it demonstrates strong initial reception and engagement with over 292,000 concurrent players.
This launch follows Amazon Games’ previous successes with titles like ‘Lost Ark‘ and aims to capitalize on the strengths of multiplayer engagements. With ongoing updates and improvements expected, ‘Throne and Liberty’ looks to establish a strong foothold in the MMORPG market.
