Ambulance Victoria Celebrates Lunar New Year With Community

Ambulance Victoria (AV) extends warm wishes to its staff and the community on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, marking the start of the year according to the traditional lunar calendar observed by various cultures globally. The festive period will commence on the 10th of February this year.

Cherlyn Chia, the Multicultural Program Lead at Ambulance Victoria, shared her personal sentiments around Lunar New Year, highlighting the significance of food, togetherness, and family bonding during this period. Reflecting on her own traditions, she expressed anticipation for the annual celebrations.

As she resides away from her family in Singapore, Cherlyn noted that Lunar New Year offers her the opportunity to gather with friends, enjoying customary snacks like pineapple tarts and love letters, while adorned in red garments to symbolize good fortune.

The Reunion Dinner, a cherished tradition on the eve of Lunar New Year, will see Cherlyn and her partner joining friends to prepare and relish dumplings, signifying unity and prosperity. Following the festive dinner, the days ahead will be filled with visits to ‘open houses’ where feasting and camaraderie prevail.

Aligned with the Chinese zodiac, 2024 heralds the arrival of the Year of the Dragon, symbolizing strength, wisdom, luck, and prosperity. Ambulance Victoria underscores its commitment to acknowledging and honoring diverse cultural observances that hold significance for its workforce and the communities they serve, ushering in the Year of the Dragon with warm wishes for health and prosperity.
