Amit Elor Shines In The Paris Olympics Semifinals

In a thrilling showcase of talent, Team USA’s Amit Elor made waves by winning her semifinal match at the Paris Olympics. The young California wrestler dominated North Korea‘s Sum Pak, securing a technical superiority victory with a score of 10-0 in under two minutes.

Elor, who is just 20 years old, has now guaranteed herself at least a silver medal. She’ll be back in action on Tuesday, August 6, fighting for gold.

Earlier in the day, Elor delivered impressive performances, first against top-seeded Buse Tosun from Turkiye, whom she defeated decisively. Her next match saw her eliminate Poland‘s Wiktoria Choluj in another lopsided quarterfinal.

On the men’s side, Cuba‘s legendary Mijain Lopez also showcased his wrestling prowess in the Greco-Roman 130kg category. The four-time Olympic champion breezed through his matches against wrestlers from South Korea, Azerbaijan, and Iran to earn a place in the finals.

Lopez will go head-to-head with Chile‘s Yasmani Acosta on Tuesday at 1:32 p.m. ET, aiming for an unprecedented fifth consecutive gold medal in his event.

The competition isn’t limited to women’s freestyle and men’s Greco-Roman. The final weight class in contention is the 60kg men’s Greco-Roman. Japan‘s Kenichiro Fumita, who won silver in Tokyo 2020, has secured another shot at Olympic glory after defeating several strong opponents.

On the other side of the bracket, China’s Cao Liguo fought hard through tight matches, defeating wrestlers from Egypt, Venezuela, and North Korea. Fumita and Liguo are set to square off for gold Tuesday around 1:30 p.m. ET.

Amit Elor’s journey in wrestling has been remarkable. Despite her historic success, she has battled with self-confidence but credits her support system for helping her believe in herself. She expressed her disbelief about reaching the Olympic stage and the emotions that came with it.

As she prepares for her final match against Kyrgyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova, Elor is focused solely on the competition, aiming to follow in the footsteps of American wrestling legends and secure her place as an Olympic gold medalist.
