Amritsar Police Officer Bribery Arrest

Amritsar, India — The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on Tuesday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹25,000.

The accused, identified as Ajaib Singh, is in charge of the Khasa police post under the Gharinda police station in Amritsar district. This arrest came after a complaint was lodged by a resident of Ghumanpura village.

According to a spokesperson for the state VB, the complainant informed officials that a case had been registered against his cousin at the Khasa police post. Singh, acting as the investigation officer, reportedly demanded ₹50,000 to present certain records in court and assist in securing bail for the cousin.

A preliminary verification of the complaint prompted VB officials to lay a trap. Singh was apprehended while allegedly accepting ₹25,000, which was the first installment of the bribe, in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case has been registered against Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Amritsar range. He is scheduled to appear before a court tomorrow, while further investigations are ongoing.
