Anderson University Lockdown Ordered Amid Armed Suspect Search

ANDERSON, S.C. — Anderson University is under lockdown following a shooting incident that occurred nearby. The lockdown was implemented as a precaution while authorities conduct a search for an armed suspect, who remains at large.
At approximately 2:20 p.m., Anderson police responded to a report of gunfire in the 800 block of E. Whitner Street. Upon arrival, officers located a man with a gunshot wound to the calf. Fortunately, his injuries are reported as non-life-threatening.
The area where the shooting occurred is across the street from Renaissance Academy. Officers are assuring that the school is not involved in this incident. Anderson Police Chief Jim Stewart emphasized that students should remain indoors as a safety measure while K9 units track the suspect.
Alerts have been dispatched to students, faculty, and staff, advising them to shelter in place until the situation is resolved. The ongoing situation has raised concerns among the campus community, as authorities continue their efforts to locate the suspect.
