Beijing, China – Amanda Anisimova defeated defending champion Coco Gauff in the China Open semi-finals on Saturday, winning decisively with a score of 6-1, 6-2 in just 58 minutes.

The victory marks Anisimova’s third career appearance in a WTA 1000 final. Currently ranked fourth in the world, Anisimova showcased her exceptional form, dominating the match by winning the first five games. She lost only five points on her first serve throughout the match.

“I was able to put on a really good performance,” Anisimova said after the match. “I knew I was going to have to play really well against Coco if I wanted to get the win, and I’m really excited to be in the final.”

Gauff, who ranked second, struggled with her performance. She committed five double faults and consistently hit shots long or into the net. Gauff’s only previous defeat on Beijing’s main court was to Iga Swiatek in 2023.

In the final, Anisimova will face Linda Noskova, who narrowly defeated Jessica Pegula 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (8-6) after saving three match points. Pegula had served for the match at 6-5 but could not close it out.

This defeat was particularly disappointing for Gauff, who is a two-time Major champion, having won the US Open in 2023 and the French Open earlier this year. Anisimova’s strong performance continues her impressive season, in which she also finished as a runner-up at the US Open.

As Anisimova prepares for the finals, she expressed her gratitude for the local crowd, saying, “The support has been so amazing since the first day I got here. I really think that’s carried me through this entire tournament.”
