Annual Saint Patrick's Day Fun Run Raises Funds For Redhead Strays In Saint John

In the vibrant city of Saint John, known for its Irish heritage, the annual Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations kicked off with the 31st Shamrock Shuffle Fun Run. Hosted at Picaroons in uptown Saint John, over 100 enthusiastic participants, accompanied by their furry friends, took part in the lively three-kilometre run around the town.

Following the exhilarating run, participants regathered at the uptown bar to relish in a complimentary chili meal. The event saw a diverse range of runners, with the youngest participant at just 22 months old and the oldest at 85 years.

Registration for the event was set at $20, with all proceeds directed towards the noble cause of RedHead Strays, a local organization dedicated to rescuing and caring for stray and abandoned cats in the community. RedHead Strays, under the guidance of Executive Director Dianne Fox, has been providing essential support and care for felines in need for the past eight years.

RedHead Strays focuses on a comprehensive approach, including trap, neuter, and release (TNR) programs, as well as adoption services for rescued cats. The organization relies heavily on community donations to sustain its operations, with every contribution, big or small, making a significant difference in the lives of these animals.

In addition to donations, RedHead Strays also offers various merchandise such as sticks, coffee mugs, and hand-knitted ‘catnip balls’ for the feline companions. Interested individuals can explore more of their offerings on their website, and those willing to support the cause can make donations at any time.
