Manchester United winger Antony has expressed his admiration for former teammate Fred, who now plays for Fenerbahce, as the two teams prepare to face each other in the Europa League. Fred, who joined Fenerbahce from Manchester United in the summer of 2023 for £13 million, has been praised by Antony for his skills and character.

“Certainly, Fred is a great player and a great person too,” Antony said in an interview with MUTV. He also mentioned his intention to speak with Fred, as well as another former teammate, Dusan Tadic, during the match.

The upcoming match against Fenerbahce is crucial for Manchester United, who have had a slow start in the Europa League campaign with two draws against FC Twente and Porto. Manager Erik ten Hag is under pressure to secure a positive result, especially given that Fenerbahce is now managed by former United boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho, who took over at Fenerbahce in the summer, has added former United players Sofyan Amrabat and Fred to his squad. Amrabat and Fred are expected to play key roles in the midfield against their former club.

Antony himself is fighting for his future at Manchester United, having been linked with a potential move to Fenerbahce in September. Despite the speculation, Antony’s focus remains on securing his place at Old Trafford.

In a recent development, Antony was stretchered off the pitch during a match due to a lower body injury, which could further complicate his situation and the team’s preparations for the Fenerbahce match.
