BOULDER, Colorado — Architects Carol Marra and Ken Yeh have crafted an energy-efficient home in the mountains using recycled materials. Their innovative approach emphasizes sustainability and creativity, as they incorporated tile remnants and mismatched boards into their design.

The couple, both experienced architects, wanted their dwelling to reflect their values and blend with the mountainous terrain. Marra explained, “Using reclaimed materials allowed us to reduce waste and create something unique.”

Construction started in early 2022 and was completed in August 2023. The home incorporates solar panels and efficient insulation, aiming for a minimal carbon footprint. “We wanted to set an example for others and show that sustainable living is achievable,” Yeh said.

The house features expansive windows that offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape, complementing its eco-friendly design. The couple plans to host workshops to inspire others to use recycled materials in their building projects.

As interest in sustainable home design grows, Marra and Yeh’s work highlights the importance of environmentally conscious choices in architecture. “We hope to encourage others to think differently about building materials,” Marra stated.

They plan to open their home for tours starting next month, inviting the community to learn more about energy-efficient living.
