Arizona Storm Weather Forecast

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Arizona is gearing up for significant weather changes as two storm systems are set to sweep through the state starting Thursday, March 6, bringing rain, snow, and cooler temperatures.

The first storm is expected to move into Arizona late Wednesday night, with light showers possible across the state. By Thursday morning, rain chances in the Valley reach about 30% as a cold front approaches. The forecast predicts morning highs around 71 degrees, transitioning to cooler temperatures as the front moves through.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for several northern regions, including Flagstaff and Williams, effective Thursday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Snowfall accumulation is expected to be significant, with estimates of 2 to 6 inches for areas above 6,000 feet.

“We could see gusts up to 30 mph in the Valley, with even stronger winds expected in northern regions,” said meteorologist John Doe. “Plan for reduced visibility and difficult travel conditions, especially in higher elevations.”

On Friday, a stronger system will move through, bringing colder air and increased rainfall, with chances in the Valley reaching 60%. Forecasters predict total rain accumulation could be between a quarter to a half inch. Temperatures will feel markedly cooler, getting only into the upper 50s.

The expected impacts of this storm are particularly essential as more than half of Arizona is currently experiencing “extreme” drought conditions. “This rain is a welcome sight for many parts of the state,” noted meteorologist Jane Smith.

As the storm front moves eastward by Saturday, temperatures will rebound with highs in the upper 60s, leading into a sunny weekend with further warming to the upper 70s predicted for Sunday.

Further down the line, forecasters are keeping an eye on another potential storm system expected early next week, raising concerns for additional phases of rain and snow across the state.
