Arizona Cardinals Consider Strengthening Cornerback Position with Veteran Addition
The Arizona Cardinals have proactively addressed their cornerback position this off-season by signing three new players through the draft, in addition to acquiring veteran free-agent Sean Murphy-Bunting. However, sports analyst Matt Holder from Bleacher Report (B/R) suggests that the Cardinals should consider adding free agent cornerback Bradley Roby to further reinforce their defense.
Holder argues that the Cardinals’ secondary would benefit from the experience Roby brings, especially since the current unit consists of relatively young players. Roby’s versatility in covering both the nickel and boundary positions is an advantage that could benefit the team significantly.
The current secondary lineup includes young talents like Starling Thomas, Max Melton, and Kei’Trel Clark, with Garrett Williams holding the slot duties. These players are either rookies or in their early professional years, making the inclusion of a seasoned player like Roby potentially invaluable.
Bradley Roby, who is 32 years old, last played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. During his nine games with the team, he recorded 22 tackles and one forced fumble and allowed 20 completions on 33 targets. His career has also included stints with the New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans, and Denver Broncos, with whom he won Super Bowl 50. Roby has played in 135 NFL games, showcasing his considerable experience.
While the idea of a veteran addition is appealing for the Cardinals’ young secondary, the franchise has not yet made any such move. Currently, the team has approximately $30 million in cap space, providing them with the flexibility to act before the NFL’s trade deadline in November, should they decide that Roby or another seasoned player fits their strategic needs.
