Arrest Made in Uptown Sexual Assault Case, Police Confirm

DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas Police Department has arrested a man in connection with an alleged sexual assault that occurred early Monday morning in the State Thomas area of Uptown.
The incident took place around 6:05 a.m. in the 3000 block of Thomas Avenue, where authorities say the suspect followed the victim to her apartment before the assault. Police announced the arrest on Tuesday afternoon, just one day after the report.
According to Dallas PD, multiple community members reported hearing a woman screaming for help during the incident. Resident Jacquelyn Maly shared her experience, saying, “I was woken up by a woman screaming outside for help, saying that someone was following her.” Maly, along with other neighbors, called 911, leading to a swift police response in the area.
The suspect, described as a white or Hispanic male between 25 and 30 years old, measures between 5’8” and 5’11” with a slender build and medium-length dark hair. Surveillance images of the suspect wearing gray New Balance sneakers were released by police shortly after the incident.
Dallas police confirmed they received a tip regarding the suspect’s whereabouts after sharing his photos online. An undercover unit was dispatched to confirm the tip and arrest the suspect in the same neighborhood where the alleged assault occurred.
Residents expressed concern over their safety following the attack. Julia Reedy stated, “My friends and I sent it around our group chat. My heart goes out to the victim. That is awful.” Another resident, Mariel Seieroe, shared her feelings of unease, saying, “I walk around this neighborhood every day at 4, 5, 6 a.m. so the fact that there’s someone in this neighborhood that’s doing this is scary.”
While police have not confirmed whether the man taken into custody matches the individual in the released surveillance images, they are currently processing the evidence and running DNA through the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) to check for any potential links to previous crimes. Meanwhile, the urgent plea for community assistance continues: police urge anyone with information regarding the assault to contact Detective John Eubanks in the Sex Assaults Unit at 214-671-3991.
As the investigation continues, residents remain vigilant and are taking precautions for their safety. Reedy mentioned her parents instilled the importance of walking with a friend, especially at night, reinforcing the community’s commitment to looking out for one another.
The name of the suspect has not been released, and Dallas police have not provided details on when more information regarding the charges may be available.
