Asda to Go Cashless at Petrol Stations Across the UK
Asda has announced plans to go cashless at 82 of its petrol stations across the UK, as it continues to phase out manned checkouts in its superstores. The supermarket chain has already removed manned tills from 14 locations since December last year, and the remaining 68 petrol stations will go cashless by summer 2024. Instead of accepting cash, customers will be required to pay at the pump via card or contactless methods before filling up their vehicles.
This move comes as a disappointment for shoppers who still prefer cash payments. However, Asda stated that more than 90% of all payments at superstore fuel station forecourts are already made using card or contactless options. The decision to remove manned tills and go cashless is aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing customer service.
As part of this transition, Asda will be redeploying the staff from these petrol stations to work in their stores. The company reassured that these employees will be given the opportunity to serve customers in a different capacity.
The areas affected by the changes include Nottingham, Watford, and Swansea. The list of locations comprises the 14 sites where the manned checkouts have already been replaced.
