Australian Singer Cody Simpson Fails To Make Olympic Swim Team, Returns To Music Career

The Australian Olympic Committee has finalized its 41-member swim team for the upcoming event, with pop star Cody Simpson notably missing the cut. Despite his efforts at the Olympic trials in Brisbane, the 27-year-old singer fell short of securing a spot in the prestigious team.

After finishing fifth in the 100-meter butterfly event at the trials, Simpson expressed mixed emotions, stating that he would now pivot back to his music career following this setback.

Having initially made a name for himself in the music industry after being discovered by an American manager in 2009, Simpson revisited his swimming roots four years ago, aiming to represent Australia at the highest level in the sport.

Prior to the trials, Simpson took to social media to reflect on his journey, expressing gratitude for the support he received along the way and acknowledging the progress he had made since returning to competitive swimming.

The Australian swim team roster includes seasoned veterans such as Cameron McEvoy and Bronte Campbell, both set to compete in their fourth Olympic Games. Rising star Ariarne Titmus, who recently broke a record in the 200-meter freestyle, also secured a place on the team.

However, not all veterans were as fortunate, as four-time gold medalist Cate Campbell failed to secure a spot in her bid to make history by becoming the first Australian swimmer to compete in five Olympic Games.

In the women’s 50-meter freestyle event, only the top two finishers – Shayna Jack and Meg Harris – will represent Australia at the upcoming Paris Games, leaving Campbell out of contention after finishing in seventh place.
